What people are saying about WHY BE NORMAL
"Currently in week 33 and looking at videos that will
help me prepare for parenthood. Your beautiful story
is so touching and reassuring, that I can stop worrying
about things that are yet to come or may not ever come to be."
"This is such a beautiful, moving story. It shows how love
overcomes fear. Thanks for this!"
Julia's Way is dedicated to reimagining life with Down syndrome. Our first project, a video entitled Why Be Normal, was aimed at parents whose babies had recently been diagnosed with Down syndrome to provide hope and inspiration. We've had over 25,000 views since it was released in March and we continue to receive positive feedback.
We are currently working on our next project, which will focus on supporting mothers who want to breastfeed their babies with Down syndrome. According to our research 20-30% of women are told that their babies with DS are not as capable of breastfeeding as other children. These mothers report feeling unsupported when speaking with their medical professionals about breastfeeding their babies. We know that we can make a difference. The projected release of the first phase of this project is late July, just in time for World Breastfeeding Week.
Learn more about the project. If you've breastfed your baby with Down syndrome we'd love to hear your story, tips and tricks, and challenges. If you tried but were not able to breastfeed your baby with DS we'd like to hear those stories, too. Additionally, we are accepting donations to help fund this project with a goal to raise $10,000 this fiscal year to implement the first phase.
